I'm humbled that you'd consider me to help you grow and develop as an artist. Rather than throw a bunch of buzzwords at you, I'd like to talk frankly about my teaching style and what I'm able to offer.
WHAT TO EXPECT FROM MY LESSONS
MY TEACHING PHILOSOPHY
If you've watched my YouTube videos, you know I'm not the most organized or formal person. This carries through to my teaching, but in a way I hope is liberating rather than stifling. My lessons are laid back and conversational. I don't have a strict lesson plan or curriculum. I don't expect you to follow a rigid structure or timeline. You're more in tune with yourself than I could ever be, and in respect to that, my first question to students is always: what is your goal and how can we work together to achieve it as thoroughly as possible?
WHAT DO YOU OFFER LESSONS FOR?
It shouldn't surprise you that most of my students come to me for help with the Octatrack, but I offer lessons in the other Elektron gear, like the Digitone and Digitakt, as well. In addition to the Elektron ecosystem, I'm happy to help you get familiarized with subtractive synthesis, modular synthesis, and music production within Ableton. Are you curious about lessons for something not listed here? Shoot me an email, and I'm sure we can figure something out!
WHAT WILL LESSONS BE LIKE? ARE YOU SCARY?
I am exactly as scary as my videos make me seem, I assure you. Our first lesson is usually an extended discussion about questions you may have, culminating ultimately in us hashing out a plan together moving forward. Each lesson we'll check in on your progress, review any concepts that need reviewing, and start covering new concepts that you're interested in. This almost always takes the form of me asking you what you want to talk about that particular day. I want to meet you where you are, and make sure we're covering the things most directly important and interesting to you. That's the whole appeal of personal tutoring, right?
WILL THERE BE HOMEWORK? TESTS? BLACK MIRROR STYLE PERFORMANCE JUDGMENTS?
I assign "homework" related to whatever concepts we've covered that lesson, but of course it's entirely up to you to complete it or not. The goal is to get you to apply the concepts we've discussed without the big bad teacher man looming over your shoulder. But don't worry, I haven't abandoned you! I try to check in semi-regularly between lessons to make sure you're doing alright. Something I try to make clear is I'm not just your teacher when we're in class--I'm your teacher whenever you need me. I'm always available for questions, concerns, or just general idea spit-balling.
I HAVE QUESTIONS, CONCERNS, MEMES, ETC. HOW THE HECK DO I REACH YOU OUTSIDE OF LESSONS?
I typically communicate with students through Discord, but accommodations can always be made if need be. The most important thing to me is that you're comfortable. As I said in a previous section, please don't be hesitant to reach out if there's absolutely anything you need.
HOW MUCH DO LESSONS COST?
I have a sliding scale depending on how frequently you want to take lessons: $50/lesson monthly, $75/lesson biweekly, and $100/lesson weekly. While this may seem backwards (don't most places offer discounts for frequent purchases?), my reasoning for these price differences is the work it takes to prepare materials and resources (project files, templates, samples, etc) between classes. I'm a father of two, and my wife and I are both full-time students, so finding that prep time outside of lessons gets exponentially difficult with how close together they are. That said, if you'd like to commit to a certain number of lessons, I'm more than willing to work out a bulk discount for that.
